Greengrog is a project that looks at sustainability and environmental practices through a different lens — beer goggles. Or. Just beer. The slideshow below serves as an introduction.

Brewing beer, like any industry, uses a lot of resources: there’s money, space, and natural resources like water and whatever source of energy is in use — coal, gas, nuclear, solar, wind, whatever. It makes sense for any business to take care to reduce the total amount of resources used, and in brewing — especially craft brewing — it seems that they’ve been quietly ahead of the game for a while. This site is dedicated to chronicling those sustainable measures in brewing, whether it’s using organic ingredients, making candy, using little water, distributing over less distance or going all out and installing the largest solar array in the U.S. Check out our features in the navigation below, or head to the blog for our latest posts.

About GreenGrog

Greengrog is the work of Dave Burdick and Kenan Davis, who are thrilled to be on the verge of graduating from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

Davis, pictured at left, originally from south Georgia, began writing music reviews for the Valdosta Daily Times and now writes and produces content as a general interest reporter.

Burdick, a native of Boulder, Colo., blogs for other people about the environment, writes jokes and enjoys writing about people's passions.
